University Teacher Education Board

The University Teacher Education Board has responsibility for ensuring that teacher education programs across the University of Arkansas meet all requirements for their students to be licensed as teachers by the state of Arkansas. It reviews recommendations submitted by academic departments that have teacher education programs that lead to licensure and is advisory to the provost and the deans of the College of Education and Health Professions, Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, and Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences.

The board is responsible for the general coordination of the initial and advanced certification process for education licensure programs at the university. It evaluates and makes recommendations on all proposals for degree modification, approval of new courses, and approval of course changes for all education programs that lead to licensure. It also establishes general policies and procedures necessary to ensure that students who successfully complete an eligible teacher education program are eligible for licensure.

The board's membership will consist of one faculty representative from each department in the U of A having an education program that leads to licensure. All faculty members of the board will be elected by their respective departments in an election overseen by the dean of the College of Education and Health Professions for three-year terms, staggered by academic year.

Ex-officio non-voting members — recommended by the dean of the College of Education and Health Professions and appointed by the provost for one-year terms — include at least one active public-school teacher, one active public-school administrator, one representative from academic student services, and two students (one graduate and one undergraduate) currently enrolled in an education program. The members of the Razorback Educator Development Hub in the College of Education and Health Professions and the director of Curriculum Review and Program Assessment also will be ex-officio non-voting members of the board.

The board elects its chair and vice chair/chair-elect from its faculty membership.
